PETER WINSTED PETTIGREW

BASICS.
alias[es]. Pete, Wormy, Wormtail
age | birth date. 21 - October 13th, 1960
sexuality. Heterosexual, though he thinks that everyone talks about what he's doing and who he's not doing it with.
blood. Pureblood
marital status. Single
family.
Gregory Pettigrew; father- Peter was never very close to his father and found him to be a rather stuffy individuality. His father also walked on out their family when Peter was sixteen, so that was pretty cool awful. He heard from him once after he left and then found out through distant family that his father was killed on a muggle fishing boat by pirates. Fitting death for such a greedy bastard.
Samantha Pettigrew, nee Wilder; mother- Samantha was a saint who really tried to see the best in Gregory and Peter. Though she grew to be distant after her husband left their family, she does her best and tried to get Peter through his last two years of schooling. She greatly cares for her son and all of his friends, even if she's a little dim and doesn't understand everything that they do. It could be her semi-permanent residence at the Hog's Head, they don't talk about it

other relationships/friendships.
James Potter; popular friend- James was always that person that Peter wanted to be, at least secretly; it wasn't much of a secret but he admires and desires his attitude, humor, life. He used to try and emulate this man, at least until he married Lily and then that changed things. He was so easily replaced by a wife and a son that Peter can't help but be a little sad and resentful, though he would never say anything to anyone about this.
Sirius Black; cheeky friend- Though Sirius is his friend, Peter has always felt most detached from Sirius. Their humor never mixed as well as he hoped but Peter learned to steer clear from him and not challenge him on what he thought; it's easier to just go along with what he says. Confrontation is not an option.
Remus Lupin; best friend- Remus is his best friend, the one that he could pull back with and chill, you know, drive the carriage while their other two friends messed around and made fun of life. Peter adores Remus and wouldn't know what to do without him. He's proud to be a friend of Remus and out of the four, he really feels like he could trust Remus with all of his secrets and insecurities because that's just how they are.
Lily Potter; Yoko Ono- Lily came to break up the band, but Peter can barely resent her for that; she stole one of his best friends but he's always done his best to be kind and affectionate towards her, even if he wasn't sure how to talk to her. Lily seems like the kind of person who would come around with soup and crackers, so he wouldn't want to abuse or use that side of her, it's just that he's not used to having someone so entirely sweet around.
Marlene McKinnon; %^&*- Marlene is.. Well, to put it in a way that is highly appalling, his wet dream, the person he wished his pillow could be, his dream, his friend, the one who saw him for who he could be and the one woman who Peter always wanted to be by his side, in his hand and in his bed because Mar is perfect. She was his first kiss and he has wasted so many days thinking about her. She's everything beautiful in his world.
Regulus Black; cheeky friend's cheeky brother-
Peter isn't really sure what to think about Regulus so he formed his opinion based off of what everyone else says: Regulus Black is a fool, an idiot, a snob and a punk. Maybe this will change one day but Peter isn't too fond of changing his opinions on things, especially unprovoked.

occupation. Shopkeep and apprentice at Slug & Jiggers Apothecary
schooling. Gryffindor, 1971-1978
wand. Chestnut, 9ΒΌ", dragon heartstring
patronus. A blackbird. There are so many times when Peter just wants to get away from his world and become someone new; it's also a good reason for why he's so unsure about this 'hiding' from LV: what's the point of standing up if you don't have a way to get away? Getting away means everything to him, it's instant safety. He wants the illusion that he can leave any time he likes.
boggart. Lord Voldemort. There is no other person in this world that makes him feel like everything that is good could be taken from him. Voldemort is also the one person who could take away everyone that Peter loves without a wave of his hand.
alignment. Order of the Phoenix for now.

APPEARANCE.
[OOC: I know that canonically speaking, Peter was short, fat and very unattractive. This is RP and damnit, Jesse Eisenberg is my Peter Pettigrew. If you have an issue, refer to my HMD post. Thanks!]
Peter, on his own, would probably stand out due to his height and lanky stature. With curly brown hair, wide oval eyes and a goofy smile, it would be easy enough for him to meet a girl that he liked and charm her. He'd even be clever and brush leaf or a piece of lint off of her shoulder with a reassuring yet chivalrous smile.

That is, if he were charming

Unfortunately for Peter, he's more likely to say something about something scientific or entirely stupid to a girl than he is to tell her how beautiful she is, and this is obviously matched with his awkward stance, wringing hands and stuttering which he is prone to do. It's hard to be himself sometimes because his friends used to get all of the attention [ie: even Remus got attention from girls because he was able to grow facial hair in more than just one area on his face], thus leaving Peter with the company of books and quills to get him through.

As it is, Peter really enjoys muggle clothes (shockingly) and prefers to wear such simple things as button downs and jeans. When he is at work, his uniform is a required dark navy cloak and dress robes when there are formal events through the company. His skin is ever pale, his feet are always in dress shoes and though he may look a bit haphazard, Peter likes to look as nice as he possibly can.

PERSONALITY.

Peter Pettigrew is, at most, a coward with a heart of gold that he painted for somoene else with a can of perfectly speckeled gold that he could never get himself- he got someone else to get it for him; he was too scared and timid to get it himself. You see, when someone else has to get things for you, it's a bit safer - your fingers aren't the ones sliding the money across the counter which means that they're the ones that are going to be safe, not that guy who did it for you. Sometimes that guy is your friend, maybe it's not, but does it matter? He's the one doing it for you.

That guy right there, he's dedicated to the cause. He'll do anything you need him to because he really, really wants to be there with you. He'd give you his own eyes if you needed to see just to make sure he had a place in that group, with those people. He's dedicated to his image, to his prestige, the illusion of being someone. Nevermind the fact that he's been watching people for years, mimicing their behaviors, the way that they respond to women, their wives, their small children. He picks up their inflection and makes it a part of his own. Hell, after a while, it sounds like he's been the one saying it all along.

But see, when you've gone and watched everyone in your life repetitively, you learn that there are two sides to every story. Sometimes, those sides aren't good on either end, so you take the best of both and make them into another side: the one you want to live by. Protect the people you love, or let them protect you (with Peter, it's the same thing). You make your decisions carefully and then move on from there. Food chain, baby, that's what it is to him. He laughs about it all, he laughs about a lot of things, but at the end of the day, he's very dedicated to his craft.

Now, there are some tender parts to Peter that he doesn't like to admit (weaknesses are not in his applicable range of things he can fix) and one of these parts is his Mar, Marlene, the woman, girl, the friend outside of the Marauders who always treated him with kindness and thought that he was worth something even if he didn't agree for a second. She made him wonder what kind of person he could be and so, thanks to that, there is that side of Peter who secretly wants a life, a wife and a dream; whether or not he actually goes for it is unknown, even to him.

Of course, when you're so worried about everyone else and they think of you, you start to develop these little things in you that you do't even know are there. See, when you're worried that the Dark Lord is going to come around and kill your family and friends, you become a little skittish and wonder when they're going to come for you next. Peter wonders this all the time and feels completely incapable of helping anyone, even himself. Because of this, he's contantly around others and finds it rather distressing to be alone.

Though he likes to be around others, he kind of likes that they're there to comfort him; save a few (re: Marlene, Remus). For the most part, he can't really tell what other people are thinking so he does his best to assume that he will figure out what they want to hear, even if it turns out to be entirely wrong. He is likely to change his opinion and words to appease someone else and will do so at the drop of the hat- it's so much easier to have people like you when you're telling them what they want to hear.

The last few things of Peter's personality are not only expected, they're so normal for him that you could probably read them on his face upon first glance: depressed, untrusting and closed off are three terms that could easily read with one Peter Pettigrew. He's so jaded with his world and doesn't believe that it's really going to get better, at least on a broad political scale. Second, he doesn't know how to trust people because most have taken advantage of his good nature and made him to feel like a fool. He's afraid of letting people into his life because, believe it or not (and I jest), Peter is a very private person who is not keen on letting people see the real him.

[At the end of it all, Peter does have some really wonderful qualities to him that I am looking forward to seeing come out in game; as we all do, his personality is flexible and will change throughout game play. Please be patient with both of us, for Peter is a very dymanic character and I want to do my best and play him accordingly.]

LIKES: Candles that smell nice, oversized blankets, shirts with hoods, the winter, the way leave scrape the ground, transfiguration, his anaimagus form, Marlene, oh god Marlene! He could write a whole paper for what he likes about her and the way that she is entirely perfect in every way but he stops himself and then acts like he's never loved her, ever. Also, he enjoys music; it has to be melodic in sound and he particularly likes things with clever lyrics (and would like muggle rock music if he heard it).

DISLIKES: Death Eaters, people who kill for fun, cigarette smoke, being put on the spot, being alone, having a rat form for his animagus form, when he has hair stuck in his shirt, body itches, following people around, his own inability to be his own person, the feeling that he could be doing so much more with his life but doesn't know where to start, his cowardice.

POLITICS.

BLOOD BIAS: Though his friends are very loose with their ideas of blood purity, Peter finds himself supporting a more Grindelwaldian standpoint: it's fine to be a wizard regardless of your blood type, but muggles need to be cared for and taught how to properly exist with magic. He doesn't like the statute of secrecy but then again, Peter doesn't like a lot of politics. It's easy enough for him to pretend like he doesn't care; upsetting his friends is the absolute last thing he wants to do.
STANCE ON WEREWOLVES, VAMPIRES ETC.: Obviously Peter doesn't care about werewolves, you know, unless they're someone other than Remus. He doesn't know if other people are going to hurt him or his friends because he knows how to get away from Moony if he has to. Vampires mistify him and would likely make him nervous, but it's only because they are, logisticlally, above Ministry regulation.
RELATIONS WITH MUGGLES: He tries to avoid them, honestly. Peter isn't too interested in the other world and when Lily talks about it, his eyes glaze over and he tries to tune her out- who cares about their tellies and the airplains [At which he would like to point out that it's stupid to have something which flies over the ground that requires jet fuel; get a broom, they are far more efficient]? Not him. He likes his world and would like the muggles to abide by wizard-kind for a while to see how they like it.
ADDITIONAL INFO:Peter is very good at remaining, well, scared. He doesn't want to get involved in the mix of things because it would put his health and safety on the line. Though he would never admit it, he's starting to wonder how long the Potters and Longbottoms will be safe under the Order's protection. If He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is looking for them, Peter is convinced that anyone who leads him to them is in immediate danger, as well.

HISTORY.

BIRTH TO TEN:
Peter Pettigrew was born to two people who really shouldn't have been married to the other in the first place; they met in 1957, married in 1958 and had Peter in 1960. There was not enough passion in their marraige to have another child so Gregory and Samantha were stuck with their one son, their lone heir (like they cared about that) Peter, the child (who from a very young age) showed very severe signs of anxiety and attachment. It could have been that Geoffrey was always away thanks to his position in the IDMLE as an Auror or thanks to his mother, Samantha, who bless her heart, was a bit of a drunk.

There was always fighting in their home.

By the age of six, he was used to the sounds of his parents slamming doors and screaming at each other. There was one time when he could actually recall asking his mother to leave his father that way the two of them could go off and live together safely. Unfortunately, his mother wasn't willing to leave him and the three of them continued on for years this way.

Through the lessons she put her son through, Samantha started to worry that her son was squib: she and her husband were both decently skilled wizards and they incorporated a lot of magic in their household. For two years, Gregory threatened to take away all of Peter's freedoms until he showed signs of magic and on his 9th birthday, this threat came true: there was no more leisure, no more use of brooms, no more Quidditch magazines. He became entirely bored and jaded as a young child, often turning to reading books and spending his time daydreaming about when he could go to Hogwarts. This could arguably be when he started to develop his 'depression', though his father barely listened to his pleas and the subject of Peter's ablities became the center of many household arguments.

He wished his dad would just leave.

10 to Marauders/Snivellus:
His tenth birthday was incredibly unevenful and boring: he was allowed a cake, though it was considerably boring and his cake wasn't decorated beyond Happy Birthday, Peter with a few candles. He blew out his cake and then wished so hard that he would just show some signs of magic, please, please. He was starting to lose his mind in that little house and wasn't allowed to go out and do things - the summer had already passed and he was so desperate to go hang out with the boy that lived down the street, his only friend (if you could even call him that).

That night, the fight that happened with his parents was worse than usual.

The last thing that he remembered being said was something about his mother being a whore and his father's hand connecting with her face. At that moment, and don't ask him because he doesn't know, Peter was so upset that he caused his bedroom door to slam closed... As he stood in front of his parents in their room.

Things changed a lot after that day: arguments were quelled, his father let him have his broom back and the three of them had a lovely holiday season; though they were never the richest family, Gregory went out of his way to make sure that Peter had new robes that year and that he had all new books for the start of his time at Hogwarts. Peter was thrown into learning head first and his mother really tried her best to make sure that he was doing as best as he could for when he got to school.

Needless to say, by the time August next rolled around, Peter was ready to get the hell out of that house.

When he got on the train to Hogwarts, Peter felt incredibly free but entirely overwhelmed and sat by himself on the train for the first hour; granted, there were other people in the cart but they were somewhat crude and made fun of him a when he said that he only started to produce magic a year prior. It was less than a day in to one of the most monumental days of his entire life and he was distressed. As he was getting up to leave his compartment, the compartment door opened and a little girl entered with light, wavy hair and an armful of books. He recognized her as the girl he met shopping in Diagon the day before with his family and hastily asked her to sit with them. The two broke off to another cart with some older kids who just wanted to snog on the cart. They didn't have to acknowledge anyone else and spent their afternoon talking about how wonderful school would be.

Her name was Marlene McKinnon.

After his sorting, Peter met plenty of people in his common room and was instantly taken by the comraderie and fellowship that the older students had. Though he was awkward and mostly overlooked, the company of his friend helped him meet a group of boys who would change his life for the better. Even though he liked all of them, Peter took the most to Remus Lupin, a dark haired boy who was always a bit more studious and considerate than the other two, James and Sirius. Peter didn't quite fit in to their group but they brought him in and tried to help him regardless. Unfortunately for Peter, he often found himself at the butt of Sirius's jokes and really started to cling to the company of Remus. When things got hard with the guys, Marlene was always there to tell him how stupid they were and distract him from whatever mini-meltdown he was having that week.

Peter never thought twice when finding out that his best friend was a werewolf and was just as eager to help protect him as he was to lean how to become an anaimagus, himself. He never chose to register himself but grew to be quite comfortable as a rat. It's funny how going to the shrieking shack would be impossible without his rat form, but Peter doesn't rub this in; he's happy just to do his job.

The only person Peter can think of feeling sorry for during his time at Hogwarts was a boy named Severus Snape whom his friends started to pick on when they were much younger. As an outcast himself, Peter would have never made fun of Snape but because he was desperate to fit in, he did it willingly. When left alone with Severus, he would never have made fun of him and would have been apologetic about his actions if he were, of course, braver.

End of Hogwarts/Order/Now
Peter's last few years of school were pretty normal, at least in his eyes. When he was seventeen, life was just going to go down it's path and he would carry on like everyone else: get a job, get a flat, stay alive. He did show a sign of bravey before the end of his seventh year and got around asking Marlene to kiss him under the cleverly disguised guise of "I don't want Remus to do it," which he really didn't want but it didn't matter because she agreed. The kiss itself was pretty awful (thanks to him) but he held on to it like a trophy he earned for being alive! He was so excited that after the two were done kissing (incredibly awkwardly), Peter ran off to tell his friends about what happened. There was some making fun of, but really, it was one of the best days of his life.

His ambition was never to play Quidditch or go into working at the DMLE: Peter wanted to be a potioneer and got hired on at Slug & Jiggers Apothecary due to his exceptional work with potions and an exceptionally knowledgeable paper he wrote about the effects of improperly made wolfsbane potions. He likes working there, now that he's in the Order of the Phoenix with his friends.

Now, the thing about the Order is that they are a very well intentioned society of people but there are eyebrows being raised about the open sort of lifestyles that are being led by the Potter and Longbottom families. It isn't that he doens't want his friends to be shunned away but it's more for his their protection and he really wants to make sure that their sons are safe. Sons, why doesn't anyone have daughters? He shakes his head at this thought, it's irrevelant, but Peter really does think that if the Order does continue to flaunt the open-ness of it's members (even if it isn't public knowledge that they are more important than their first impression, etc) the rest of the Order will be at a great disadvantage. He hasn't worked up the bravery to talk to James about this whole situation, but he plans on going to Remus with his concerns soon.
